I'm Ceris, a fully qualified counsellor with over ten years of experience and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS).
Before setting up my private practice, I spent over twenty years working for the Armed Forces in the West Midlands area. I started in administration which then led into a role in pastoral care, which became the turning point in my career. I found myself working with and supporting people who were experiencing a lot of personal stress, anxiety, work-stress, grief, and trauma.
It was following this job role and my involvement with the Samaritans and the charity Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen's Family Association (SSAFA) as a volunteer, that I decided to train as a counsellor. This was about fifteen years ago and is probably the best decision I have ever made. I qualified in Levels 2,3, 4 & 5 with a Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling and I also obtained a Level 7 diploma in specialist Welfare. Due to my involvement with the military community throughout the years I do offer a discounted rate to all Veterans, Serving Personnel and Blue Light Card holders.
Using an integrative approach with person-centred therapy at the core enables my clients to find vast resources for self-understanding within themselves to enable them to become more self-aware and achieve independence. I also incorporate Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) into some sessions, this is a goal-directed approach to finding solutions to problems. The critical part of the counselling process is that the client is the focus of everything we do – we have an equal relationship.
Using a genuinely warm and friendly approach I offer counselling to empower you to develop a deeper awareness of yourself so you can build new perspectives and challenges to make meaningful choices. It's fulfilling to see that change occurs in a client after you've worked with them for a while. To witness them living with their true authentic self, making decisions whether leading to minor or significant changes.
